The US approved the first-ever transfer of confiscated Russian assets for Ukraine's needs

US Attorney General Merrick Garland has authorized the first transfer of confiscated Russian assets for use in Ukraine. He stated this on Friday during a meeting with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin at the Ministry of Justice, CNN reports.

"Today I am announcing that I have authorized the first-ever transfer of confiscated Russian assets for use in Ukraine. The asset seizure comes after I announced last April the indictment of Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev on sanctions evasion charges,” Garland said.

The total amount of confiscated assets is 5.4 million US dollars.

On Friday, Kostin echoed Garland's statement, adding that the two countries are sending a clear message to Russia: "There will be no immunity and impunity for international crimes."

"Today we are witnessing the authorization of the transfer of confiscated assets in the amount of 5.4 million US dollars to the State Department for the purpose of rebuilding war-torn Ukraine," Kostin added.

The Ministry of Justice has accused Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev of violating sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, saying he financed Russians who promoted separatism in Crimea.

Then the federal court of Manhattan in the USA decided to confiscate the property of the Russian oligarch.
