A marathon - the World Run-2023 (World Run-2023) was held in Georgia. The palm of the championship among women belongs to the Pole Dominika Stelmach (she ran 49 km). Among men, Levan Chokheli became the leader (more than 55 km), and among people with disabilities, Nino Darbaidze (4.7 km). Symbolic gifts were given to the winners.
160,000 lari (a little more than $64,392) will be transferred to the Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund from Georgia - that's how much the marathon participants managed to collect.
According to the organizers, if they wish, the two winners will be able to participate in next year's Wings for Life World Run in any of the countries, with travel expenses covered by the organizers.
The race started in the Kakheti region on 10 km of the Telavi-Kvareli track, near the intersection of the Lopota resort. 5,300 volunteers took part in the marathon.
Marathon in Kakheti is held every year. From 2014 to 2022, 33,000 people wishing to participate in the charity event were registered in Georgia.
The global race "Wings for Life" is a charity marathon that is held simultaneously in several countries. Professional runners, amateurs and people with disabilities can take part. The marathon does not have a standard finish line. According to the rules of the race, the so-called "finishing" car leaves the place 30 minutes after the start and travels 15 km. If a car moving towards the conditional finish line overtakes you, it means that you are out of the race. The winner is the one whose car catches up last.
