Leopard 1 tanks, which are being transferred by Denmark and Germany, will be ready for deployment in Ukraine by June 1.
This was stated by the country's Acting Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen, TV2 channel reports.
In total, Denmark and Germany will transfer 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine. Poulsen called this number "very significant".
He is currently in Berlin. Here, Poulsen, together with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, met with Danish instructors who teach Ukrainians to work with this armored vehicle. The training of the Ukrainian military will last about a month.
Poulsen assures that the Ukrainians can benefit from the Leopard 1 tanks, despite the fact that they are not as modern and effective as their Leopard 2 successors.
"They have very good firepower and are able to orient themselves well on the terrain. And the last, but not least, is a very large number, and the Ukrainians need a very large number of tanks," he noted.
It will be recalled that in February, the Netherlands, together with Germany and Denmark, announced plans to transfer 100 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine - they will be sent as soon as they are brought to the proper technical condition. In the interview, Pistorius did not specify why he named the figure of 80 tanks. Perhaps we are talking about a party whose promise to restore was taken by Germany itself.
On April 28, it was reported that Ukrainian tankers had already started training on Leopard 1 tanks.
