The US State Department stated that it supports the accession of new members to NATO, including Ukraine, but now Washington is focused on supporting Kyiv in countering Russian aggression.
This was stated by Deputy Spokesman of the US State Department Vedant Patel during the briefing.
"We support NATO's open door policy. It is clear that this is a collective decision and it must be adopted by the entire Alliance. We are now focused on providing support to our Ukrainian partners in overcoming the challenges they face," he said.
Among these challenges, the representative of the State Department named the aggression of the Russian Federation, Russian attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure, as well as the Kremlin's disdain for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
"This is exactly what we will continue to focus on," he added.
Earlier, the DPA agency reported that NATO members, in particular, Germany and the USA, do not yet want specific decisions regarding Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.
