Ukrainian special forces are preparing for the upcoming offensive in several locations of the Bundeswehr in Germany.
This is reported by Bild with reference to sources.
In addition to medical training and training in working with heavy equipment, such as the Leopard 2 battle tank and Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns, the Bundeswehr is currently also training Ukrainian special forces.
They are taught to conduct local and urban battles - this is especially important for the planned recapture of occupied cities.
Actions in densely built-up conditions require special skills, battles often take place at very short distances and on several levels, and the danger of mine traps is particularly high.
One Ukrainian serviceman told the publication how intense the fighting between houses is even in such a small town as Bakhmut: "We had a position in a two-apartment building, the Russians were in the next room, we could even hear them
In order to increase the Ukrainians' chances of victory, an attack on entrenched opponents is also being practiced.
The Bundeswehr also teaches Ukrainians how to survive behind enemy lines: the so-called SERE training, translated from English - survival, evasion, resistance and escape training.
In general, a four-digit number of Ukrainian soldiers are being trained in Germany, including a three-digit number of Leopard 1 tank crews in the last week.
According to Bild, the German Ministry of Defense and the federal government are cautiously optimistic. At best, "small successes" and "limited breakthroughs" through the lines of the Russian occupation forces are expected. The main reason for this opinion is that the huge mass of Russian soldiers is no longer capable of large-scale offensives, but has a numerical advantage in defense.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian tankers have already started training on Leopard 1 tanks of the old model, and from the middle of 2023, 80 such tanks will be gradually transferred to Ukraine.
