The European Union welcomes the telephone conversation between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the leader of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. Brussels expects China to use its influence on Russia to end the war.
This was stated by the official representative of the European Commission, Eric Mamer, quoted by The Guardian.
"This is an important, long-overdue first step for China in fulfilling its responsibilities as a member of the UN Security Council. China's leadership should use its influence to force Russia to end its aggressive war, restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and respect its sovereignty as the basis for a just peace ", - said Mamer.
Conversation between Zelenskyi and Xi Jinping
It will be recalled that yesterday the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the leader of China Xi Jinping held telephone talks for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that as Xi Jinping stated in a telephone conversation with Zelenskyi, his country will do everything possible for a ceasefire.
