Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmytro Medvedev talked about the difficult decisions he had to make as the President of Russia. As TARS writes, the politician shared his memories with the participants of the "Knowledge" marathon.
"The decision of the Security Council, which was later supported by the Federation Council, was very important - to carry out our military operation to force Georgia to peace, the so-called Five-Day War. It was certainly a difficult decision for me personally as the president at the time," Medvedev said.
According to him, there were other decisions, for example, regarding the recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
"These are also difficult decisions, they required discussion, weighing pros and cons, they required maximum attention," Medvedev noted.
Georgia and the country's international partners consider Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be territories occupied by the Russian Federation. Only Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Syria and Nauru recognize their independence.
