Instead of repeating trite phrases about NATO's open doors, it is necessary to find concrete mechanisms for the rapid integration of Ukraine into the NATO space after the end of the war.
This was stated by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda to journalists, he was quoted by the publication Delfi.
"Instead of repeating clichéd phrases about NATO's open doors, we need to find more concrete mechanisms for the rapid integration of Ukraine into the NATO space after the end of the war," Nauseda said.
According to the President of Lithuania, it is also necessary to abandon the thinking that Ukraine's future membership in NATO is a burden for the Alliance. The Lithuanian president is convinced that Ukraine will only strengthen the Alliance, as the Ukrainian army has been baptized on the battlefield and has as much experience as any other European country's army.
Nauseda also emphasized the importance of the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in the NATO summit in Vilnius.
"I think it is in the interests of all of us that President Zelenskyi participates in our discussions. A significant part of the discussions will be devoted to and directly related to Ukraine," Nauseda said.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced on April 21, before the start of the Ramstein format meeting, that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi had accepted an invitation to participate in the NATO summit.
The day before, at a joint briefing with Stoltenberg, Zelensky thanked for the invitation to visit Vilnius, but said that it is important that Ukraine also receives a corresponding invitation.
