President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during the meeting in Kyiv, in particular, discussed our country's accession to the Alliance and the upcoming Ramstein meeting.
This was reported by the President at a briefing.
Zelenskyі noted that Ukraine interprets the NATO Secretary General's first visit to Ukraine during a full-scale war as a sign that the Alliance is ready to start a new chapter in relations with the country - a chapter of ambitious decisions.
"During the negotiations, we touched on four main issues. The first is "Ramstein", the meeting that will take place tomorrow and the decisions we expect from our partners. First of all, it concerns the armed support of our active actions. The further our soldiers can move on the front line, the faster to Peace will return to Ukraine and Europe," the president said.
Zelenskyi and Stoltenberg also discussed some allies' indecision about defense. Thus, the president asked the Secretary General of NATO to help overcome the reluctance of partners in the supply of some weapons, namely long-range, modern aviation, artillery, and armored vehicles.
"Inhibition of appropriate decisions is time lost for peace and the lives of our soldiers," he added.
In addition, the politicians discussed the NATO summit, which will be held in Vilnius this summer. Zelenskyі believes that it can become historic.
"I am grateful for the invitation to attend the Vilnius NATO summit, but it is important that Ukraine also receives a corresponding invitation. There is no objective barrier that would prevent the adoption of a political decision to invite Ukraine to the Alliance. And right now, when most people in NATO countries support the accession of our country to NATO. It's time for appropriate decisions," the president said.
The fourth issue discussed by politicians was security guarantees for Ukraine on the way to NATO. Zelenskyі emphasized that these security guarantees in no way replace or delay Ukraine's membership in the Alliance. However, security is needed while the implementation of the solutions continues, and it is needed for the entire free world.
We will remind, the NATO Secretary General promises to continue strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
