President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi officially confirmed the visit of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to Kyiv. The head of state has already held a meeting with the head of the Alliance.
"I congratulate NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Kyiv. This visit by Jens Stoltenberg is the first during a full-scale war - we interpret it as a sign that the Alliance is ready to start a new chapter in relations with Ukraine - the head of ambitious decisions," Zelenskyі wrote on social networks.
Kyiv expects that NATO should take a step for Ukraine's membership in the Alliance during the summer summit in Vilnius. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, called Vilnius 2023 "a reason to correct the mistakes of Bucharest in 2008."
Zelenskyi also noted that Ukraine is waiting for the NATO summit, which could be fateful.
Lithuania, which is hosting the summit, has already pledged to seek Ukraine's invitation to NATO during the alliance's summit in Vilnius in July.
The NATO Secretary General's visit to Kyiv takes place on the eve of the meeting at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine, where the partners will decide on the support of Ukraine with weapons.
