Explosives were thrown at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during his speech in Wakayama on the morning of April 15. No one was hurt, the event was canceled.

 The abandoned object looked like a smoke bomb, Kyodo News reported. The explosion occurred when the prime minister was talking to a candidate from the ruling party, in whose support he had come to speak. After the incident, Kisida was evacuated, the attacker was detained by the police.

 On the footage, a loud explosion can be heard, people can be seen running away, and several policemen are pinning the attacker to the ground.

 The attack on Kishida took place a year after the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. In July 2022, he was shot twice while giving a speech at a rally in support of a candidate from the ruling party. Abe died in hospital. The attempt on him took place in the city of Nara - Wakayama in the neighboring prefecture.
