Canada is satisfied with the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Russian President Vladimir Putin and expects more decisions from the court in the future.
Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Larisa Galadza stated this in an interview with "Interfax-Ukraine".
"We were very pleased with the arrest warrant for President Putin. Why? Because it shows that the court can work quickly and that it focused on a really important aspect of Russia's war against Ukraine and its consequences for children," she said.
According to the diplomat, she believes in the possibility of bringing Putin to justice, as well as all those who committed war crimes in Ukraine.
Galadza added that Canada supports the ICC and all its work in Ukraine, as well as its work investigating international crimes around the world.
"The arrest warrant is a limitation and a certain condemnation, and a very strong sign that the International Criminal Court is working here in Ukraine and in The Hague with international support from countries like Canada. And I expect we will see more from the ICC ", the ambassador emphasized.
Galadza also called the issue of prosecution of the Russian Federation for the crime of aggression important.
"Canada is a member of the "Core Group" (Core Group - a coalition of countries working to create a special tribunal for crimes of aggression in Ukraine. - Ed.). And we are working with like-minded partners to understand how to prosecute for the crime of aggression, involve to the judicial responsibility of Russia for its aggression," she said.
