This year, Russia began exporting fuel to Iran by rail for the first time after traditional buyers abandoned trade with Moscow.

 This is reported by Reuters.

Russia and Iran, under Western sanctions, are forging closer ties to shore up their economies.

"Last fall, Russian Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Novak announced the start of swap deliveries of oil products with Iran, but actual deliveries began only this year," the article says.

Reuters writes that in February and March, Russia delivered up to 30,000 tons of gasoline and diesel fuel to Iran. All volumes were delivered by rail from Russia via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Some batches of gasoline were sent from Iran to neighboring countries by trucks, including to Iraq.

It is noted that Russian oil companies are now interested in exporting diesel and gasoline to Iran by rail, as exporting by sea is not profitable for them. They face high freight rates and price caps set by the G7 countries.

The publication reports that the supply of Russian fuel to Iran will increase this year. However, several problems with logistics are already visible due to overloaded railways.
