On the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka, the eruption of one of the largest volcanoes, Shiveluch, began on the night of Tuesday, April 11. The nearest villages were covered with ash.

The eruption was assigned the highest code of aviation danger. The Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Russian Federation stated that the height of the ash emission was from 15 to 20 kilometers, writes Kommersant.
In the village of Klyuchi, which is located 47 kilometers from Shiveluch, the ash fall became the heaviest in 60 years. The height of the layer is approximately eight centimeters.
In some settlements, the light went out, and the water taps were contaminated. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation says that the ash cloud from Shiveluch has spread for 500 km and may cover Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
