Cyprus will offer Ukraine demining training as part of humanitarian aid.
According to the Reuters agency, the Minister of Defense of Cyprus, Michalis Georgallas, stated this on Friday.
"We will receive personnel who will deal with demining and mine detection," Georgallas said in an interview with Sigma TV.
A group of about 18 Ukrainian officers will arrive in Cyprus for training in the last week of April, the Cypriot press reported earlier.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov is visiting Cyprus on Friday and will visit the areas where the training will take place.
Cyprus was divided by the Turkish invasion in 1974. The 180-kilometer demarcation line through Cyprus was dotted with minefields until both sides began demining the area last decade with UN assistance.
Cyprus is one of the EU states that agreed on the joint purchase of ammunition to help Ukraine and replenish the national reserves of the EU member states.
