Britain urged the Russian Federation to respect international airspace

Following the sinking of an American MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Black Sea after being intercepted by a Russian Su-27 fighter jet, Britain's defense secretary urged Moscow to respect international airspace.

This is reported by Sky News.

"The key point here is that all parties respect international airspace and we urge the Russians to do so," Ben Wallace said at Japan's DSEI defense exhibition in Tokyo.

"The Americans said they thought it was unprofessional," he added.

As noted, the incident was the first such direct clash between the two states since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and risks deepening tensions in relations between Moscow and the West.

The US Air Force issued a statement on March 14, in which it was reported that a Russian Su-27 fighter jet damaged an American MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance and strike UAV over the Black Sea during an interception, as a result of which the drone had to be scuttled.

US President Joe Biden was informed about the incident, and the White House called Russia's actions "dangerous, unprofessional and reckless".
