On the night of March 9, Russia conducted a new massive shelling of Ukraine, using various types of missiles and Shahed drones. Explosions rang out in a number of cities and regions, including Kyiv, reports NV.ua.
Around 01:00 on March 9, an air alert was announced in Kyiv and throughout Ukraine, and it lasted for almost 7 hours.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that today Russia attacked Kyiv and 10 oblasts: Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Kharkiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhya. According to the Ministry of Energy, the main target of the attack was energy facilities.
For this, Russia used 8 Shaheds and 81 missiles of various types (including ballistic Daggers and anti-aircraft S-300) during the long attack. Defense forces shot down 34 out of 48 cruise missiles (X-101/X-555, Kalibr) and 4 out of 8 Shahed-136/131 unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to the spokesman of the Air Force Command, Yuri Ignat, the Russians fired at Ukraine for the first time with such different types of missiles at the same time, in particular using six "Daggers".
"I don't remember this happening before. In total, as many as six Daggers were launched. MiG-31K aircraft were used by the occupiers," Yuriy Ignat said.
In Kyiv, an infrastructure facility was hit in the Holosiivskyi district, in Sviatoshynskyi, rocket fragments fell in a residential quarter, injuring three people. In Zolochiv, Lviv region, a rocket hit residential buildings, killing five people.
As a result of the attack, serious problems with electricity supply are observed in Kharkiv, Odesa, and Zhytomyr. Electricity supply in these three regions is limited most significantly, Ukrenergo confirmed.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi called the Russian troops' tactics of shelling civilians "deplorable".
"The occupiers can only terrorize peaceful people. This is all they are capable of. But it will not help them. They will not be held accountable for everything they have done," Zelenskyi said.
