Britain's military equipment is in need of replacement, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine means some upgrades need to happen as soon as possible.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Britain, Ben Wallace, writes Sky News.
Speaking at the Conservative Party's defense and security conference, Wallace said that after the start of the war in Ukraine, Great Britain unlocked huge investments, which in some cases went to eliminating "black holes" and were able to start modernization in the army.
"We were willing to take some risks on the timing of the acquisition of new opportunities. Then, of course, Putin [Vladimir Putin, Russian dictator, -ed.] invaded Ukraine, and that changed some of those mid-decade timelines that we were ready for to take risks. Part of the ... negotiations I'm in is about how I can provide some equipment to mitigate those risks," Wallace added.
At the same time, the minister emphasized the need to invest in the future and learn lessons from the battlefield in Ukraine in order to "be ready for what may happen in the future."
"And I think that the next stage will be - and we just have to make sure that we are there and ready," the minister said.
We will remind you that RBC-Ukraine wrote about the fact that, according to The New York Times, Britain formed a secret working group on the purchase of weapons for Ukraine in various countries of the world.
