Two Ukrainian pilots traveled to the United States of America to analyze the skills of Ukrainian pilots and the needs of a potential training base for training in the management of modern aircraft.
Yuriy Ignat, a representative of the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said this on the telethon, Ukrinform reports.
"We are talking about two pilots... (In the USA. - Ed.) they are analyzing the readiness of Ukrainian pilots, their combat experience, their knowledge in order to conceptually understand how much time will be needed, what training and material resources should be spent, which base to choose for potential future pilot training on the type of aircraft to be determined and announced," Ignat said.
He recalled that the F-16 is now considered the most likely to become the main combat aircraft of the Air Force in the future.
"These pilots are already experienced pilots and are working now with our partners to understand exactly how to organize the training process," Ignat said.
He added that training of military engineers and infrastructure of Ukraine should also be organized for the reception of Western equipment.
Earlier in the mass media there was information that two Ukrainian pilots are in the USA to undergo assessment of their skills in piloting combat aircraft, including F-16 fighters.
In February, US President Joe Biden said Ukraine "doesn't need F-16s right now", despite repeated public pleas from Ukrainian officials and increased pressure from Republicans in Congress.
The Armed Forces Committee of the US House of Representatives determined that the possibility of sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine "is not a wise use of resources necessary to win the war."
