Ukraine will decide for itself: Stoltenberg on the return of the occupied Crimea by force

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Ukraine should decide on its own terms acceptable to itself regarding the issue of the return of occupied Crimea by force.

He said this in an interview with the Lithuanian TV channel LRT.

The interviewer noted that the Secretary General and NATO emphasize that Ukraine should return to internationally recognized borders. Then Stoltenberg was asked if this meant the return of Crimea by force.

Stoltenberg replied that in the end, the war should end at the negotiating table, and "then the Ukrainians should decide what the terms of the negotiations are and what they can adopt."

"Our task is to support Ukraine, because we know: what happens at the negotiating table is inseparable from what happens on the battlefield. If we want a peaceful solution for Ukraine, the best way to achieve this is to provide military support. Then Ukraine itself will decide what conditions are acceptable for it," Stoltenberg said.

Recently, the former commander of the US Army in Europe, retired lieutenant general Ben Hodges, revealed a possible offensive plan of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Crimea.

He emphasized that long-range weapons are needed for a successful counteroffensive of the Armed Forces to make Crimea unusable for Russian troops.
