Lockheed Martin's US mobile missile launcher plant in Camden is preparing to increase production of the HIMARS system after its success on the battlefield in Ukraine boosted demand from other countries. Reuters writes about it.
"When you have a combat-proven system that's in the news every day, then that drives that demand," said Jennifer McManus, vice president of operations for Lockheed's missile division.
The High Mobility Artillery Missile System (HIMARS) became a widely recognized weapon after the launchers were seen in action during the war in Ukraine. With investments made through 2022 in the plant building, Lockheed will need only a few upgrades to accommodate production growth, company executives said.
Lockheed reportedly started 2022 with 48 HIMARS launchers, but has since increased production to 60.
"With regard to HIMARS in particular, we have already met with our suppliers to plan to increase production to 96 such units per year," said Lockheed CEO James Takelet.
The LEGO company released a HIMARS model with a signature painted smile and a soldier in a Ukrainian uniform. All proceeds from the sale of the figure and other accessories of the set will go to the UNITED24 platform.
