Ukraine will not start military operations in Transnistria, even though it has the right to do so - MP Sandu

Oazu Nantoi, a deputy from the ruling party of Moldova "Action and Solidarity", believes that Ukraine has the right to consider a military scenario in Transnistria, but will not do so.

Nantoy told about this in an interview with "European Pravda".

The politician noted that now Ukraine considers Transnistria as a minor but real danger.

"War is a bloody, cruel and unpredictable business, so there is a risk of a blow to Ukraine's back from Transnistria, that is, from the territory of Moldova. And Ukraine is annoyed by the fact that it is forced to keep military units in this region," Nantoi said.

According to him, the threat of an attack by Russian forces on Ukraine from the territory of Moldova is not a primary one, but it is still unpleasant, so for Kyiv, its own logic of war operates here: "to be or not to be".

"And Ukraine has every right to consider, in particular, the military scenario of preventing an attack from the territory of Moldova," the deputy explained.

However, Nantoi believes that Ukraine will not follow this path.

"I want to emphasize that there is now a frank constructive dialogue between Ukraine and Moldova. And there is an official position of Moldova that the "Transnistrian conflict" is not a conflict that needs to be resolved by military methods. There are many arguments here," he explained.

"Ukraine will not start military operations in Transnistria. And because there is a dialogue (on this topic) between Kyiv and Chisinau. And because today the situation at the front is such that this military operation is not necessary," Nantoy believes.

The politician also emphasized that although the threat to Ukraine from Transnistria remains, today there are no people on the left bank of the Dniester willing to fight against Ukraine or Moldova.

On February 23, the Ministry of Defense of Russia spread false information that Ukrainian forces are allegedly planning an armed provocation in Transnistria in the near future. The authorities of Moldova and Ukraine denied this.
