The United States has promised appropriate sanctions if China supplies Russia with lethal weapons for the war against Ukraine.
This was stated by US President Joe Biden in an interview with the American TV channel ABC News.
"I had a very frank conversation with Xi Jinping about this. And I said to him: This is not a threat, this is just a statement, a statement of what I think is real. You saw what happened when the rest of the world, in particular Europe felt Putin's brutality in Ukraine," the politician said.
Biden noted that he reminded the head of the People's Republic of China how hundreds of private companies left the Russian market - from McDonald's to Exxon, and so on in all spheres.
"I said: If you engage in the same brutality, support these atrocities, you can experience the same consequences," the US president emphasized.
At the same time, according to him, the United States has not yet seen China provide lethal aid to the Russian Federation.
In response to the question whether it would be a "red line" if China transferred weapons to the Russian Federation, Biden emphasized: "We will impose severe sanctions on anyone who does this."

In the same interview, Joe Biden noted that the "peace plan" proposed by China to end the war in Ukraine is not beneficial to anyone except Russia.
"If Putin supports it, how can it be good? I haven't seen anything in this plan that suggests there is anything in it that would be beneficial to anyone other than Russia if this Chinese plan goes through", - said Biden.
In addition to criticizing the peace plan, Biden categorically rejected the idea of peace talks on China's part in the war, calling it irrational.
"The idea that China will negotiate the outcome of a war that is completely unfair to Ukraine is simply irrational," Biden said.
Earlier it became known that the Chinese authorities presented their peace plan regarding Russia's war against Ukraine. It consists of 12 points.
