It should be noted that the summit of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is currently taking place in Chisinau, in which deputies from Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and members of the European Parliament are participating. President of Moldova Maia Sandu spoke at its opening.
She noted that Russia's war against Ukraine taught Moldova many lessons. Some of them are severe and painful, causing unprecedented human suffering, political upheaval and economic problems.
"One of the most important lessons we have learned is respect for international law, human rights and the principles of democracy and the rule of law. When these values are ignored, the consequences can be catastrophic... We want to be part of the free world... We want to be part of the EU family," said the president of Moldova.
In addition, the head of the European Parliament, Robert Metsol, spoke at the video conference. She assured of Moldova's support in its aspirations to join the EU.
"We support you in realizing your aspirations regarding the EU. We will continue to make progress in working with the candidates - Moldova and Ukraine, we will work with Georgia to achieve the status of a candidate country. We will cooperate with Azerbaijan within the framework of the Eastern Partnership," she said.
Earlier, Sandu said that the Russian Federation is waging a hybrid war against Moldova, but Ukraine's struggle protects the country from a direct threat.
