British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that now, according to estimates, 97% of the Russian army is deployed in Ukraine. He told BBC Radio 4.
"According to our estimates, 97% of the Russian army, the entire Russian army is in Ukraine," Wallace said.
"If 97% of the Russian army is now concentrated in Ukraine, with a very, very high attrition rate, potentially 40% of their combat capability reduced, and almost two-thirds of their tanks destroyed or broken, this has a direct impact on the security of Europe," he added.
Wallace also said that helping Ukraine helps the country's own security at home and that Ukraine's long-term stability must be taken into account.
In particular, Wallace was asked about Ukraine's request to provide fighter jets. In his answer, he noted that the international community provided Ukraine with thousands of surface-to-air missiles, drones, and long-range missiles. According to him, these weapons systems have "the same effects".
"The question now is how we can help Ukraine help itself and raise enough to make Russia's advance impossible as well," he said.
Wallace pointed to Ukraine's long-term resilience and said that if the government were to donate fighter jets, it would also have to provide about 200 Royal Air Force personnel.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi recently visited London and said that the trip was very productive. In particular, there are agreements that the parties left behind the scenes.
