Switzerland is close to a decision on lifting the ban on the transfer of Swiss-made weapons to Ukraine.

 This is reported by Reuters.

Recently, the Swiss government has been increasingly called to abandon the ban on the supply of weapons to Kyiv, although there is still no consensus on this in the parliament. A bill was recently introduced to parliament that would allow the government to allow the re-export of Swiss weapons to countries with the same democratic values as Switzerland.

"We want to be neutral, but we are part of the Western world," said Thierry Burkart, leader of the center-right FDP party, which is the author of the law to lift the ban on re-exporting weapons to Ukraine.

According to him, the Swiss authorities should not have a veto to prevent others from helping Ukraine. Otherwise, the continuation of such a ban would indicate support for Russia.

According to a recent sociological survey, 55% of Swiss are in favor of lifting the ban on the re-export of weapons and their supply to Ukraine.

"If we had asked this question before the war, the level of support would probably have been less than 25%. In the past, the rejection of neutrality was a forbidden topic," said Lucas Golder, head of the polling company GFS-Bern.

Earlier it was reported that the Swiss FDP party offered the government to help Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks.

We will also remind you that Switzerland recently granted permission to send weapons and demining equipment to Ukraine.
