A Pentagon spokesman, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, said no US military forces were involved in the strikes on Iran, but declined to comment further. This is reported by Reuters.
Iran claimed to have intercepted drones that struck a military industrial target near the central city of Isfahan and said there were no casualties or serious damage. US officials declined to elaborate, saying they were not involved in the strikes.
The fact that US officials pointed to Israel's role in the attack was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing several unidentified sources. One US official told Reuters on condition of anonymity that Israel appeared to be involved.
Several other U.S. officials declined to comment, other than to say Washington had no role.
According to Iranian media, the explosions occurred at the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iranian media also reports on the sounds of explosions in other cities.
