Estonia sends the ambassador of the Russian Federation and promises to continue supporting Ukraine

Russia's ambassador to Estonia is scheduled to leave the country in early February after the level of diplomatic relations between the countries has declined.

This is stated in the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu.

"Estonia takes note of Russia's decision to reduce its diplomatic presence to the level of a temporary representative. Estonia's relations with Russia are guided by the principle of parity, and we will adhere to it. This means that the Russian ambassador to Tallinn will go on February 7 at the same time as the Estonian ambassador to Russia." the statement says.

The minister emphasized that Russia's steps will not prevent Estonia from providing support to Ukraine.

"We will continue to support Ukraine as Russia plans large-scale attacks, and call on other like-minded countries to increase aid to Ukraine," Reinsalu said.

The day before, Russia decided to lower the level of diplomatic relations with Estonia to the status of a temporary chargé d'affaires, in connection with which the ambassador of Estonia to the Russian Federation, Margus Laidra, was ordered to leave Russia by February 7, 2023.
