Ukraine and Europe will win the war with or without Germany, the Polish Prime Minister said on Sunday.
"I try to weigh my words, but I will say it directly. Ukraine and Europe will win this war - with or without Germany," Mateusz Morawiecki told the Polish Press Agency (PAP), adding that it was up to Berlin whether it would join the mission to stop Russia or watch passively, which he said , will doom them to be on the wrong side of history.
"Almost a year has passed since the beginning of the war... Evidence of the war crimes of the Russian army can be seen on television and on YouTube. What else does Germany need to open its eyes and start acting in accordance with the potential of the German state," he said, calling Germany's position "unacceptable."
Morawiecki emphasized that Germany is not obliged to give all its resources, adding that Berlin "should not weaken or sabotage the activities of other countries."
He also said that Poland works closely with the US and created a coalition of European states to support Ukraine, but when things went better for Ukraine with heavy weapons, "Germany stepped in and raised doubts."
"The enemy is in the east, and we are wasting time on discussions that do not bring anything good," Moravetskyi said, adding that Germany had fallen into a trap it had set for itself over the years of seeking closer ties with Moscow.
Morawiecki's comments came after a meeting of Ukraine's Defense Contact Group at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany on Friday, where Kyiv's allies pledged further military support but failed to agree on sending battle tanks.
Pressure is mounting on Germany to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 battle tanks, but Berlin has so far avoided any commitments, with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius saying the country is trying to balance "all the pros and cons" of such supplies.
Some countries, including Poland and Finland, have promised to send their German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, but require Berlin's permission to do so.
