The State Duma of the Russian Federation threatened to expropriate the property of EU countries in case of confiscation of Russian assets

Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin threatened Germany and other states with the expropriation of their property in Russia if the West confiscates frozen Russian assets. He wrote about this on his Telegram channel.

"Today, the German government has decided to transfer the problems created by their predecessors to our country. To this end, they plan to seize Russian assets to restore Ukraine," Volodin said.

"As soon as such a decision is made, we have the right to take similar actions with regard to the assets of Germany and other states," the speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation emphasized.

He stated that the rules should be the same for everyone and the same applies to withdrawal of funds and property.

"This will start a process when all states will ignore international law and take what they deem necessary at their own discretion. Germany's leadership should remember from the history of its own country how attempts to encroach on foreign land ended," Volodin said.

It should be noted that the possibility of confiscating Russian property for the restoration of Ukraine has long been discussed in Germany. Federal Minister of Justice Marko Buschmann openly advocated the expropriation of the property of Russian oligarchs in this process. However, according to him, it must be proven in court that the relevant persons are involved in war crimes or illegal warfare.
