Merkel is not going to participate in efforts to end the war in Ukraine

Former Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel said that there is no question of her participation in the peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine.

She said this in an interview with Corriere Della Sera.

"This question does not stand," said Merkel, commenting on her possible participation in the settlement.

According to her, she does not know exactly how the war should end.

"It will end with negotiations one day. Wars end at the negotiating table. There is a difference between a forced world, which I, like many others, do not want, and an open and friendly conversation," Merkel said.

She once again defended her policy towards Russia.

"The Minsk agreements of 2014 were an attempt to give Ukraine time. Ukraine used this period to become stronger than we see today. The country in 2014/15 is not the country it is today. And I doubt that NATO could then do a lot to help Ukraine, as is happening today," said the former chancellor.

It will be recalled that the former Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, believes that her government's rejection of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project together with the Minsk Agreements could lead to an undesirable deterioration of relations with Russia.
