The court session in the case of ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili had to be suspended due to tension in the courtroom after Saakashvili started to speak mainly in Ukrainian, and the judge demanded that he switch to Georgian.
This is reported by "News-Georgia".
At the December 22 court hearing, in which he participated in a video call from the hospital, Saakashvili spoke in Ukrainian, under the pretext that he now only has Ukrainian citizenship.
"Mr. Mikheil, follow the order and speak Georgian," Judge Giorgiy Arevadze responded. Saakashvili replied that he is a citizen of Ukraine.
Later, due to the noise in the hall, the judge announced a break in the session. According to media reports, the meeting will resume, and the translation into Georgian, if necessary, will be carried out by a representative of the Ukrainian consulate, who is present at the meeting.
Also, during the session, the judge rejected the offer of Saakashvili's lawyer to "lift up his shirt" so that the audience could see how he lost weight, and compared the condition of the ex-president with the condition of Ukrainian defenders who are released from Russian captivity.
The judge replied that if Saakashvili "starts to undress", he will be removed from the process.
