A court in Georgia acquitted a taxi driver who abandoned Russian tourists because of an argument about Ukrainian music

A jury in the city of Rustavi acquitted a taxi driver who dumped two Russian tourists on the Gombor pass after a conflict arose between them over Ukrainian music.

This was reported by the lawyer of the driver Amiran Bokuchava, Irakli Chomakhashvili, "Georgia Online" reports.

The taxi driver was supposed to take tourists from the Tbilisi airport to a hotel in the city, but on the way the passengers demanded that the driver turn off the Ukrainian music.

On this ground, a dispute took place between them. As a result, the taxi driver headed in the opposite direction, went up to the Gombor Pass, where he dropped off the Russian and drove off.

The Russians sued the driver, claiming that he kidnapped them and illegally deprived them of their liberty on the basis of nationality.

The taxi driver faced 7 to 10 years in prison.

However, the jury decided that Bokuchava's actions did not fall under Part 3 of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (Illegal imprisonment of two or more persons). As the lawyer stated, the meeting ended with a score of 12:0.

"The jurors believed that playing a Ukrainian song for Russians and protecting their national interests is not a crime! I want to thank everyone! Today, on behalf of the people, we defeated Russian imperialism," Chomakhashvili wrote.
