The number of the armed forces of Russia should be increased to 1.5 million. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Serhiy Shoigu, at a meeting of the extended board of the ministry on December 21.
"For a guaranteed solution to the tasks of ensuring Russia's military security, it is necessary to increase the number of armed forces to 1.5 million servicemen, including contract servicemen - up to 695,000 people," said the head of the Russian Defense Ministry.
In order to effectively recruit for the occupying forces, he also instructed to complete the digital transformation of the Russian military commissars.
According to the head of the department, the mobilization announced in Russia was needed to stabilize the situation, "protect the occupied territories" and further offensive actions.
Partial mobilization, as Sergei Shoigu said, has become a criterion for the maturity of Russian society, a serious test for the country and its army.
"We encountered difficulties in notifying and calling citizens who are in reserve. All shortcomings had to be corrected on the fly. Changes were made to the organizational and staffing structures of military administration bodies, units and units in the shortest possible time," he explained.
Also, Shoigu, at a meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Defense, proposed to increase the age for military service on call-up from 18 to 21, and the minimum age - from 27 to 30. The minister promises to gradually increase the age.
"Ensure the opportunity for citizens to enter military service under a contract or be called up from the first day of service," he said.
