ISW: The Russian Federation is probably preparing for a winter offensive, but it is unlikely to be successful

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggests in the last of its daily summaries-analyses that in recent days, the showing on Russian television of trips and meetings of the military and political leadership of Russia, as well as the meeting scheduled for Monday between Putin and Lukashenka, testify to the preparation of Moscow. then decisive actions at the front in the coming months - but these actions are unlikely to be successful.

"Persistent attempts by Russian military officials to show that they are actively involved in the planning of military actions and control them, especially in the absence of victories in Ukraine, may mean that Russia is preparing to resume its offensive in Ukraine in the coming months," ISW analysts write.

They also see signs of preparations for such an offensive in the meeting between Putin and the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, which will take place on Monday: American experts, following numerous Eastern European colleagues, assume that the Russian dictator will once again encourage his "uncle" to more actively participate in the war.

However, whether the Russian army will be capable of a successful offensive in the near future - in this regard, ISW has great doubts.

"Putin can still order major offensive operations already in the winter, but it is important not to overestimate the ability of Russian or joint Russian-Belarusian forces to successfully conduct such operations," ISW writes.

In addition, according to American analysts, Lukashenko is unlikely to agree to send his army to Ukraine.
