Five Russian nationals and two US nationals were indicted Tuesday in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, on charges of conspiring to illegally obtain technology and weapons for the Russian defense industry.

According to the indictment, the defendants, who include an employee of Russia's Federal Security Service, illegally purchased and exported electronic components, some of which could be used in the development of nuclear and hypersonic weapons, quantum computing and other military technologies.

The defendants were allegedly linked to the Moscow companies "Serniya Engineering" and "Sertal", which work under the direction of the special services of the Russian Federation for the purchase of advanced electronics and equipment for the Russian military-industrial complex and scientific research sector.
