The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, hopes that a nuclear safety zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP will be agreed upon and established in the near future. His statement is posted on the IAEA website.
"We are making progress in our consultations with Ukraine and Russia, and I hope that the zone will be agreed and implemented in the near future. This is absolutely necessary," the IAEA head said in a statement.
He noted that "the situation at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant remains unstable and potentially dangerous."
Raffaele Grossi also reported that a new group of IAEA experts arrived at the ZNPP site, replacing those who had been there for the past few weeks. This is the fourth IAEA team at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe since the IAEA support and assistance mission in Zaporizhzhya was established on September 1, 2022.
