The US does not rule out the use of chemical weapons by Russia in Ukraine - Politico

Before starting a nuclear confrontation with NATO, in the event of further defeats of the occupying forces of the Russian Federation, it is possible to resort to a chemical attack in Ukraine, assume the representatives of the administration of the US President Joe Biden.

This became known from Politico, which refers to six knowledgeable sources, including high-ranking Pentagon officials.

As the interlocutors of the publication reported, the USA does not have intelligence data about the inevitability of such an attack in Ukraine. Most in the US Department of Defense believe that the fighting will slow down in the winter, so that the parties will not be able to win back significant areas.

However, if Kremlin forces continue to lose their positions in Ukraine, it is possible that the aggressor will use chemical weapons. It is assumed that chemical agents will be used to poison opposition representative Oleksii Navalny.

In addition, according to one of the sources, such substances will be used, the use of which will be possible to hide. The intended attack may cause mass casualties.

The US National Security Council declined to comment.

The US suggests that the Russian government is investing heavily in the development and strengthening of chemical weapons. According to Politico's interlocutor, an assistant to a member of Congress, senators learned in the fall of this year that the Russian Federation has sufficient stockpiles of chemical weapons that threaten Ukraine.
