Antonivsky bridge: why is it for the Russians and will its collapse bring problems for the Armed Forces

The destruction of the Antoniv bridge in Kherson is beneficial for Russian troops to protect themselves from unexpected strikes by the Armed Forces. However, for Ukrainian defenders, the city has no military value.

Military expert Mykhailo Zhirokhov told about it.

According to him, the Ukrainian defenders were supposed to blow up the Antoniv bridge on February 24, as it is beneficial for advancing further to Kherson. However, there are several reasons why the Armed Forces did not do this.

"The Antoniv bridge is of no importance to the Ukrainian army, because no one will cross the Dnipro in the near future. There are sections of the front in the Zaporizhzhia region, and when there will be a large-scale offensive, not today or tomorrow, but, let's say, in the spring, then maybe it is better to go overland through the Zaporizhzhya region," said Zhirokhov.

He added that the Antoniv bridge has absolutely no military value at the moment. In addition, it is not clear what the situation is with the Kakhovskaya HPP dam. But there the question arises not from a military point of view, but from an ecological security point of view. Because if the dam is blown up, some part of the territories on the left side of the Dnipro will be flooded, but as a transport artery it also has no military significance.

"The Russians benefit from the destruction of the Antoniv bridge in order to protect themselves from unexpected attacks, so this is purely a defensive measure that we should have taken in February. But we have what we have," the expert added.

It will be recalled that the mass media reported on the destruction of several spans of the Antonivsky Bridge.
