Japan and the United States have begun the Keen Sword joint military exercise.
26,000 Japanese servicemen, as well as 10,000 soldiers of the US Army, including units of the Space Force, will take part in the exercises, which will continue until November 19. In addition, 20 Japanese and 10 American ships, 250 Japanese and 120 American aircraft are expected to be involved in the maneuvers.
The maneuvers are aimed at increasing the operational potential of the military.
The training takes place in the area of remote Japanese islands to the southwest of the main part of the country.
In the course of the exercises, it is planned to practice the conduct of amphibious, land, naval and air operations, as well as joint resolution of issues in the field of logistical support and cyber security.
Keen Sword maneuvers are held once every two years. This time they will be joined by Australia, Great Britain and Canada.
