NAEC "Energoatom" reported that it is analyzing the impact of a possible blow-up of the Kakhovska HPP dam on the safety of Zaporizhzhya NPP.
"In view of the information about the mining of the dam of the Kakhov reservoir, the locks and supports of the Kakhov hydroelectric power plant and, accordingly, the high threat of undermining these structures, SE "NAEK "Energoatom" at the request of the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission is urgently analyzing the impact of such an undermining on the safety of operation of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant , - NAEK reported on Monday, November 7, in Telegram.
As noted, the destruction of these facilities may lead to an irreversible drop in the water level in the Kakhov reservoir, which supplies cooling water for the ZNPP.
"The results of the analysis, as well as the list of priority compensatory measures to ensure the safety of the operation of power units of the ZNPP in the mode of loss of cooling water supply from the Kakhov reservoir will be sent to DYARU no later than November 9, 2022," Energoatom noted.
ISW analysts indicated that the occupiers may try to blow up the Kakhovska HPP dam and blame Ukraine for this.
According to GUR MOU, the occupiers mined it back in April. The GUR MOU noted that due to the rapid de-occupation of the right-bank part of the Kherson region, Russia is deliberately preparing terrorist attacks on this territory. In the event of a blow-up of the Kakhovska HPP dam, dozens of Ukrainian settlements, including Kherson, will be under water.
The Mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Volodymyr Kovalenko, said that the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP will cause the flooding of 80 settlements and will have a negative impact on the environment.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the NSDC, stated that if Russia blows up the Kakhovska HPP, the temporarily occupied Crimea will be without water supply for 10-15 years, or maybe forever.
