The occupation authorities have begun the integration of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) into the jurisdiction of the Russian NPP operator Rosenergooatom. The IAEA should react to the "official" seizure of the station.
This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The State Inspection of Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine stated that Russian forces built an unknown structure at one of the seven spent nuclear fuel storage facilities at the ZNPP, in violation of nuclear safety standards.
The International Atomic Energy Agency did not issue a statement condemning Russia's officially declared illegal takeover of the operation of the ZNPP.
Analysts note that Russia will probably demand official recognition by the IAEA of Russian control over the ZNPP and thus the de facto recognition of Russia's annexation of the occupied Ukrainian territory.
Other key ISW findings
Russia's military-building efforts, combined with Western sanctions, are having a long-term devastating effect on the Russian economy, as ISW has previously predicted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's calls for a competitive Russian military industry are far removed from the reality of the problems facing Russia's supply chain and military-industrial base.
Russian and Belarusian officials continue to perpetuate a long-standing information operation that Belarus will enter the war in Ukraine on Russia's behalf, but Belarus' entry into the war remains extremely unlikely, as ISW previously assessed.
Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian troops continued to conduct counteroffensive operations in the directions of Svatovoy and Kreminnaya.
Russian forces continued defensive operations along the Dnipro, while Ukrainian forces continued their interception campaign.
Russian forces continued to attack Bakhmut and Donetsk.
Russian forces continued to mobilize and promote volunteer battalions, battling low morale.
The Russian occupation authorities continued to forcibly resettle residents of the Kherson region, nationalize Ukrainian enterprises in the occupied territory, and forcibly deport Ukrainian children to Russia.
