The USA will decommission the most powerful nuclear bomb: what is the reason

The United States of America has decided to decommission the B83-1 thermonuclear gravity bomb due to rising maintenance costs.

This is reported in the US defense strategy.

"The B83-1 gravity bomb will be decommissioned due to increasing limitations on its capabilities and rising maintenance costs," the document said.

It is noted that in the near term, the US will use existing capabilities to hold difficult and deeply hidden targets at risk.

In addition, the Pentagon, working with its interagency partners and guided by existing concepts, will develop a lasting capability to improve the engagement of such targets.

Note that the B83 is a thermonuclear variable-power gravity bomb developed by the United States in the late 1970s and entered service in 1983. Its maximum capacity is 1.2 megatons of TNT.

It should be noted that the US National Defense Strategy included Russia in the list of permanent risks in key areas, including nuclear.
