Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog discussed the topic of Russia's use of Iranian-made attack drones in the war with Ukraine during a conversation with US President Joe Biden on Wednesday at the White House in Washington.
According to Herzog, Iran supplies Moscow with weapons that bring death to innocent citizens of Ukraine." A day earlier, speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, the president of Israel showed photographs that he claims are proof that the drones used by Russia to strike Ukrainian cities were indeed made in Iran.
Iran and Russia deny this. Ukraine and Western countries claim that the Geran-2 drones used by the Russian army are actually Shahed-136 drones purchased from Iran.
The topic of Iran, which is in hostile relations with Israel, was generally one of the main topics at the meeting between Herzog and Biden. In addition to drones, they discussed the Iranian nuclear program, as well as the Iranian authorities' suppression of protests in the country. Protests have been going on for more than a month - after the death of 22-year-old activist Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by the police for "improperly" wearing a hijab. Protesters accuse the police of her murder. More than 200 people were killed during the dispersal of protests, including with the use of firearms.
Israel condemns Russian aggression against Ukraine, supplies Ukraine with various equipment, but refuses to supply weapons, citing security reasons.
