Russia's statements about the creation of a "dirty nuclear bomb" may indicate preparations for an act of nuclear terrorism. This was reported by the Energoatom company.
"Russia's statements about the creation of a "dirty nuclear bomb" may indicate that it is preparing an act of nuclear terrorism," the report says.
As noted, during the last week, the Russian occupiers have been carrying out unauthorized construction works on the territory of the dry storage of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. These works are carried out by the Rashists on their own in a secret mode. The invaders do not allow Ukrainian staff and IAEA representatives to the construction site.
"There are 174 containers stored at the nuclear power plant, each of which contains 24 assemblies of spent nuclear fuel. The destruction of these containers as a result of detonation will lead to a radiation accident and radiation contamination of several square kilometers of the surrounding territory," Energoatom informs.
It was reported that such construction on the territory of the nuclear power plant is an illegal interference by Russia in the project of the SPSYAP nuclear installation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and a gross violation of both the terms of the license for operating the plant and international requirements in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.
The second circumstance that indicates that Russia's statements may indicate the preparation of an act of nuclear terrorism is that for two days now, representatives of the Russian authorities and all hostile propaganda have been declaring that Ukraine is allegedly preparing a "dirty nuclear bomb", for which, according to Russia, spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste stored at the ZNPP site can be used.
"To intimidate the world even more, the Russians published a fake map of potential radiation contamination with the epicenter at the ZNPP. Energoatom predicts that such actions by the occupiers may indicate that they are preparing a terrorist act using nuclear materials and radioactive waste stored at the site." in the message.
Energoatom called on the International Atomic Energy Agency to assess the provocative and threatening actions and statements of the Russian side as soon as possible.
"The terrorist country - Russia - must immediately stop any interference in the work of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, and the world community must make every effort to de-occupy and demilitarize the ZNPP and transfer it under full control to the legal operator - Energoatom!" - the message says.
