The Council of the EU on Monday decided to send up to 40 monitoring experts to the Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan.

This decision followed a four-way meeting between President Aliyev, Prime Minister Pashinyan, President Macron and President of the European Council Michel on October 6 and is aimed at promoting the restoration of peace and security in the area, building trust and demarcating the international border between the two states.
"The European Union's deployment of 40 EU monitoring experts along Armenia's international border with Azerbaijan will be aimed at building confidence in a volatile situation that endangers lives and jeopardizes the settlement of the conflict," commented Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. security policies.
The Council decided that monitoring experts will be temporarily sent from the EU Mission in Georgia. Currently, the EU monitoring mission in Georgia is taking operational steps to ensure that this decision does not affect its ability to monitor in Georgia.
The monitoring mission for the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan will have a temporary nature and should not last longer than two months.
We will remind, following the results of the meeting in Prague, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed in principle on the placement of the EU citizen mission along the border, which will work together with the delimitation commissions.
After the meeting in Prague, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev suggested that under certain conditions a peace treaty with Armenia could be signed by the end of 2022.
