North Korea supported Russia's declared annexation of parts of Ukraine.
This was announced on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, writes the Reuters agency.
The state agency KCNA reported on the resolution of the UN Security Council, initiated by the US, which condemns the declared annexation of Ukrainian territories on September 30. Russia vetoed the resolution on Friday.
Pyongyang supported Moscow's statement that the regions had decided to become part of Russia.
Jo Cheol-soo, director-general of international organizations at Pyongyang's foreign ministry, said the referendums were held "legally" under the UN Charter, but the United States was following a "thuggish double standard" after invading other countries itself.
"To preserve the undeniable 'unipolar world', the US interferes in the internal affairs of independent countries and restricts their legitimate rights by abusing the UN Security Council," Jo Cheol-soo said in a statement carried by KCNA.
"The United States waged aggressive wars against sovereign states, including the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq, but the actions of the United States were not questioned by the UN Security Council," he added.
The Security Council will face consequences if it follows Washington's "arbitrary and arbitrary actions, as well as actions based on double standards," he said.
Ukraine severed relations with North Korea, a longtime Russian ally, in July after Pyongyang recognized the two self-proclaimed republics of the DPR and LPR.
Last month, the United States said Russia was buying millions of missiles and artillery shells from North Korea for use in Ukraine. But North Korea denies this.
