The Russian Federation ceased to be a member of the European Convention on Human Rights

Russia has officially ceased to be a high party to the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms due to its exclusion from the Council of Europe.

 

 The European Court of Human Rights clarified on Friday that this happened in accordance with the resolution on the termination of the membership of the Russian Federation in the Council of Europe, adopted by the Committee of Ministers on March 16, 2022, and in accordance with the resolution on the consequences of the termination of the membership of the Russian Federation in the Council of Europe, adopted by the plenary session of the court 22 March 2022.

 

 The court, as before, is competent to consider complaints directed against the Russian Federation in connection with its actions or inaction, provided that they were submitted before September 16.
