The Ministry of Energy reported that the government had imposed a ban on the export of coking coal.
"A ban on the export of coking coal has been established," the ministry said.
So, on September 7, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution “On Amending Annex 1 to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated December 29, 2021 No. 1424”. It provides for the inclusion of coking coal in the list of goods whose export is prohibited.
"This decision was made in order to ensure proper preparation and passage of the heating season, in particular, the accumulation of sufficient fuel reserves for thermal generation. And also to prevent the abuse and manipulation of the quality of coal that can be used to operate thermal generation during the heating season, but instead was sent for export," the Ministry of Energy explained.
State standards allow the use of coking coal as part of fuel mixtures for thermal power plants, thermal power plants and boiler houses. Thus, coking coal can be considered as a component of the fuel balance for thermal generation in preparation for the autumn-winter period 2022/23, the ministry noted.
