British Foreign Minister Liz Truss won the Conservative Party leadership election and will become the new Prime Minister. The election results were announced on Monday at the party congress.
Truss defeated former finance minister Rishi Sunak in the final round of elections. She received 81,326 thousand votes from party members, and Sunak - 60,399 votes.
Truss will replace Boris Johnson, who announced his resignation in July.
Johnson will officially continue as Prime Minister until Tuesday, September 6, when he will resign at a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Estate in Scotland.
At the same time, the new leader of the Conservative Party will officially receive an invitation to form a new government at a meeting with the Queen.
